Why I’ve Decided to Start My Blog From Scratch

If you’ve visited my website recently, you may have noticed that things look a little different. That’s because I’ve made the decision to completely reset my blog and start again from scratch. Every previous post has been archived, the article count has returned to zero, and I’m treating this as the beginning of a brand-new chapter. It wasn’t a decision I made overnight, but after thinking about it for quite some time, I realised it was the right thing to do.

For years, my blog became a collection of articles written for all sorts of reasons. Some covered topics I was genuinely passionate about at the time, while others were written simply because I felt I should be publishing something. As my interests evolved and my work changed, the blog gradually lost its sense of direction. Looking back through older posts, I could see that they represented different versions of me, different projects and different priorities, but they no longer reflected the person I am today or the kind of content I want to create in the future.

It would have been easy enough to leave everything exactly as it was, but every time I looked at the blog I felt as though I was carrying around years of digital clutter. There were articles that no longer felt relevant, posts that had become outdated, and pieces that I simply wouldn’t write in the same way today. I considered going through and updating everything, but the more I thought about it, the more I realised that I would spend far more time trying to rescue the past than creating something new. Sometimes the simplest solution really is the best one, and starting again gives me the freedom to build something with a much clearer purpose.

This fresh start also gives me the opportunity to focus on writing because I have something worth saying rather than because I feel obliged to keep a publishing schedule alive. The internet is already full of content created simply to satisfy search engines or social media algorithms, and I’ve reached the point where that doesn’t particularly interest me anymore. I’d much rather publish fewer articles that people genuinely enjoy reading than fill the website with content that exists purely for the sake of adding another page to the archive.

Going forward, the blog will concentrate on the things that genuinely interest me and make up a large part of my life. That includes radio broadcasting, website development, photography, music, community projects, local events and the occasional opinion piece when something captures my attention. Rather than chasing whatever happens to be trending that week, I want this to become a place where I can share experiences, ideas and observations that I believe are genuinely worth reading. If an article appears here, it’ll be because I wanted to write it, not because I felt I had to.

In many ways, this decision reflects how I’ve changed over the last few years. I’ve become far more interested in producing work that has lasting value instead of simply creating more of it. Whether it’s a website, a radio programme, a photograph or a blog post, I’d rather spend time getting something right than rushing to publish it. I think readers can tell the difference, and I certainly can.

Starting from scratch doesn’t mean forgetting everything that’s come before. Every article I wrote taught me something, every project helped me develop new skills, and every experience has played a part in shaping where I am today. Those posts served their purpose at the time, but it’s important to recognise when something has reached the end of its natural life. Rather than continually looking backwards, I’d rather focus my energy on creating something that feels current, relevant and genuinely representative of where I am now.

So, this is the new beginning. There won’t be any pressure to publish every week, there won’t be articles written simply to fill a gap, and there certainly won’t be content created just to chase clicks. Instead, I’ll write when I have something interesting to share, something useful to explain or a story that I think deserves to be told. I hope that approach makes this blog more enjoyable to read, because it will certainly make it more enjoyable to write.

Sometimes the best way to improve something isn’t to keep patching it up but to wipe the slate clean and begin again. That’s exactly what I’ve done here, and I’m looking forward to seeing where this new chapter leads.
